HP has also revealed its Mini-Note micro notebooks after the ASUS successful Eee PC. Micro notebooks is a new craze among the notebook makers and the consumers, and its not too far when you will be able to see feature rich compact notebooks with crazy price tag that’s hard to resist. HP has already entered into this segment with its low cost Mini-Notebook range of micro notebooks. The design of HP notebooks are better than the its ASUS and Everex counterparts and is built out of aluminum with a spill-resistant key layout. Here is the table of the various HP Mini-Note notebooks features and pricing details. HP 2133 Mini-Note Laptop has great hardware at good price, Even the 8.9-inch display, with a 1280 x 768-pixel resolution, features a glossy coating similar to premium HP screens. However, in keeping with what we have seen from the other small systems, the Mini-Note has an awkward touchpad with horizontally placed touch buttons(to cut on laptop width).

Panasonic has revealed its new compact dictaphones RR-US950-K and RR-US750-S which comes with 1 GB or 2GB storage capacities. so whats special in these Panasonic microphones, just like every other microphone on the planet they use AAA battery, a USB interface, record in Mp3 format but what sets these apart is a additional feature of a audio 4x zoom capability…you never heard 4X zoom in microphones.. but i guess if you are Sci-Fi-Tech movie addict like me then you must have definitely seen the usage of such devices in most Sci-Fi movies. It comes with dual microphones one with conventional recording and the other which force the Mic to only focus in one direction(target) eliminating the surrounding noise thereby recording voices over large distances. A cricket ball has been developed which can measure its own speed and display the ball speed measurement on the tiny LCD screen on one side, it also comes with a inbuilt long lasting battery. Until now radar guns have been used to measure the bowling speeds of bowler and there’s always been a curiosity among the cricket fans in deciding the “world’s faster bowler “, with the new Speedsensor measuring technology inside the ball itself it might become possible to get the accurate speed measurement and thereby giving the crown to the one who deserves it. How it works: The inbuilt Speedsensor measures the speed of bowl between the time when it first gets released from the bowler hand and until it hits something(preferably nets) whereas the Radar gun reads out the speed between the point when the bowl gets released from bowlers hand and strikes the pitch. Well the ball in question is not for actual cricket its just meant for measurement purposes, the manufacturers claim that the ball sensors could get damaged if hit hard directly by the cricket bat so its only meant for measuing speeds on the nets only. It comes with a three year battery life with price tag of US $45( around Rs 1800)

scientists have innovated world’s smallest transistor which is comparable to the size of an atom and can well be considered as the building block of the electronic devices in future. The newly developed technological wonder is just one atom thin and 10 atoms wide and is made from super material Graphene a better conductor than Silicon which can increase the mobility of electrons 10 times of that in silicon thus making it a natural choice for semi-conductors of the future. Research leader Dr Novoselov said graphene was a “wonderful conductor”, making it a perfect material for chip applications. “It is already superior to silicon by an order of magnitude and comparable to the best samples of other materials. We believe we can increase this mobility of electron flow 10-fold.” Read more at BBC News

Xerox has invented a new form of Self Erasable Paper Technology that would self erase anything printed on the surface of special type of paper within a time span of 24 hours, the paper can then be reused for upto 100 times. So you might ask what the use of this? well it can be used in offices, instead of trashing or recycling the paper, it can be used again and again for upto 100 times. This Reusable paper is environmentally safe, reduces paper waste and could also help in lowering overall paper costs.

How the technology works:

The paper contains specially coded molecules that create a print after being exposed to ultraviolet light emitted from a thin bar in a printer. The molecule readjusts itself within 24 hours to its original form to delete the print, or heat can readjust the molecule instantly. Xerox developed the molecule. The ultraviolet bar itself is very small, so it can also be used in mobile printers.

Like me, many other users of GMail have been fed up with the same old look and feel.

Here is how you can change the look of GMail as if it had got a redesign from Google. But you will need to have Firefox installed. Believe me, if you don't have Firefox installed you are not making the most of Internet. If you have not firefox installed yet, get Firefox here. After you have installed Firefox you will need to go to this Firefox addon page and add Stylish to your Firefox. After that you go to this Userstyles page and install the script. That all, when you now open Gmail, you will have a new dark look.

Increase Internet Speed

How to Increase internet browsing speed ?
increase Internet & Download speed
In order to fix this follow these easy steps:

1. Click on Start -->Run ---> gpedit.msc

2. On the window that will show up, Click on
Administrative Templates
Network
QoS Packet Scheduler

3. On the right side pane, Double click Limit Reservable bandwidthChange this configuration from “not configured” to “Enabled”and the reduce Bandwidth limit (%) from 20% to zero

4. Click on Ok and restart your computer.

It seems that Windows XP reserves 20% of the available bandwidtheven if this option is not configured and even if you don’t useQoS (Quality of Service) feature (which is disabled by default).

Accidents happen. If you’re ever in a situation where your phone is giving you problems because you got caught in the rain, or dropped it in the sink or toilet, here are 5 steps you can try:

*Turn the device off and do not charge it - You want to keep the phone non-operational while it dries out.

*Drip dry and shake off as much water as possible

*Dismantle whatever you can - If you are able to remove the battery and cover, do so. The more you expose the better it will dry.

*Cover your phone in a bowl of rice - Rice will help absorb moisture (at least it did for this Washington Post writer) like how it does in salt shakers.

*Place your phone (inside the bowl of rice) in the fridge - This will help the drying process (but don’t put it in the freezer where it may damage your phone).

*All in all, the idea here is to get it as dry as as possible - in as quick a time as possible. You’d be surprised how many phones spring back to life once they are dried out. Speaking from experience, I once completely submerged my trusty old Nokia 3315 several times during a camping trip (I forgot it was in my pocket). I just dried it out, and it was just as good as new :)

Note: Fans and hair dryers are not a good ideas as they tend to force moisture further into the small components deep inside the phone eventually causing corrosion.

Sony has unveiled their newest USB drives, and these are really tiny. The new line is called Micro Vault Tiny. The capacities all run from 256 MB of storage space all the way up to 4 GB. The dimensions of the new line are about 1 inch long and 0.5 inches in width.

Product summary

The good: The iPod Classic is just like the fifth-generation iPod with video, only slimmer, tougher, and injected with a more visually rich graphical user interface.

The bad: Video output now requires a proprietary cable; audio quality has not improved; some older iPod video accessories may not be compatible; users are required to use the latest version of iTunes, which may not work on some older computer systems.

The bottom line: The iPod Classic is a refinement of the formula that put the iPod on the map. Few can match its combination of storage capacity, battery life, and advanced user interface.

There are a few things that can be done in times of grave emergencies. Your mobile phone can actually be a life saver or an emergency tool for survival. Check out the things that you can do with it:

1. Emergency
The Emergency Number worldwide for Mobile is 112. If you find yourself
out of the coverage area of your mobile; network and there is an emergency, dial 112 and the mobile will search any existing network to establish the emergency number for you, and interestingly this number 112 can be dialed even if the keypad is locked. Try it out.

2. Have you locked your keys in the car?
Does your car have remote keyless entry? This may come in handy someday. Good reason to own a cell phone: If you lock your keys in the car and the spare keys are at home, call someone at home on their mobile phone from your cell phone. Hold your cell phone about a foot from your car door and have the person at your home press the unlock button, holding it near the mobile phone on their end. Your car will unlock. Saves someone from having to drive your keys to you. Distance is no object. You could be hundreds of miles away, and if you can reach someone who has the other 'remote' for your car, you can unlock the doors (or the trunk).

3. Hidden Battery Power
Imagine your mobile battery is very low. To activate, press the keys *3370# (Nokia Only). Your mobile will restart with this reserve and the instrument will show a 50% increase in battery. This reserve will get charged when you charge your mobile next time.

4. How to disable a STOLEN mobile phone?
To check your Mobile phone's serial number, key in the following digits on your phone *#06#
A 15 digit code will appear on the screen. This number is unique to your handset. Write it down and keep it somewhere safe. When your phone get stolen, you can phone your service provider and give them this code. They will then be able to block your handset so even if the thief changes the SIM card, your phone will be totally useless. You probably won't get your phone back, but at least you know that whoever stole it can't use/sell it either. If everybody does this, there would be no point in people stealing mobile phones.

Hope you found the 4 tips above useful and interesting?

What you will need is just a computer or a mobile with internet connectivity. Only minus point in such free services is that they will most of the times send small advertisement included in your SMS, but this should not matter as we can get our message across for free.

Send Free SMS from Computer

All you need to send SMS from computer is to have an active internet connection on your computer. Go to http://www.gizmoSMS.com and select the phone number to which you want to send the SMS. There are many other services where you can send free SMS. Some of them are given below:

If you have any other tools to add here, add them in comments. I would appreciate it.

Future Data storage medias

Posted In: . By MANI

DVD-RAM is a disc specification presented in1996. which specifies rewritable DVD-RAM media and the appropriate DVD writers. DVD-RAM media have been used in computers as well as camcorders since 1998. The direct successor of this format will be HD dvd-ram.

HD DVD-RAM

HD dvd-ram is the proposed successor to DVD-RAM for random access on optical media using phase-change principals. HD DVD-RAM will hold 20 gigabytes per layer instead of 15 gigabytes for HD DVD-RAM-r because of differences in recording methods used, yielding a higher density disc.

HD DVD-R

is the writable disc variant of HD-DVD and is available with a single-layer capacity of 15GB or dual-layer capacity of 30GB. Currently, HD DVD-R has slower write speeds than the competing BD-Rformat (1–2x vs 1–4x) and lower storage capacity.

Pricing of HD DVD devices and blank media is yet to be released (September, 2006), but it is expected that devices will be available at a lower price-point than the competing Blu-ray Disc format.

Blue-ray disk

A Blu-ray Disc (also called BD) is a high-density optical disk format for the storage of digital media, including high definition video.

* About 9 hours of high-definition (HD) video can be stored on a 50 GB disc.
* About 23 hours of standard-definition (SD) video can be stored on a 50 GB disc.
* On average, a single-layer disc can hold a High Definition feature of 135 minutes using MPEG-2, with additional room for 2 hours of bonus material in standard definition quality. A dual layer disc will extend this number up to 3 hours in HD quality and 9 hours of SD bonus material

Great Tips in buying a PC

Posted In: . By MANI

In buying computers, choose the one that best suits your needs. Here are great computer buying tips which will surely help you a lot in choosing computers according to your needs.

For personal and office use, choose the cheaper computers. You need not spend much in computers for your office and/or personal use. You can buy a computer for as low as P6,000 to P8,000 ($150 - $200), which is good enough for typing, keeping your documents and for surfing the internet.

For business purposes, especially in computer gaming, invest your money to high speed, high tech, maximum capability computers. Computers with low specs will not support the speed requirements which is very much needed in computer games.

Always consider the price in buying computers. Manufacturers like AMD and INTEL often develop their products. The good news is everytime they have a new product in the market, the price of their old product goes down. You can save more with the old models but is still great when it comes to its performance.

The price and the product is really important. Take this as a good example. A brand new 80gb hard drive with a price of P3,800 ($95), brand new 120gb hard drive with a price of P4,600 ($115) and a brand new 160gb hard drive with a price of P5,000 ($125). If an 80gb hard drive is not good enough for your computer, which one would you opt to buy? The brand new 120gb hard drive with a price of P4,600 ($115) or the 160gb hard drive with a price P5,000 ($125)? Choose the 160gb instead. There is only a bit difference when it comes to price and take note of the capacity of the item that you are going to buy.

When it comes to choosing a computer case, heavy type cases are most recommended because of the quality material that was used. Problems always occur with light weight pc case. If you are going to use a 7200RPM hard disk with a light weight pc case, chances are, the case will shake which will make it very noisy. Also, light weight cases cannot discharge smoothly the heat. Heavy type of computer cases usually have a built-in air guide.

In buying a power supply, it must be supplied with a high voltage continuity. Instead of buying lower wattage, choose a 400w or higher power supply. If you will use a lower wattage, there is a tendency that the CPU will shut down without any cause and some small parts of the motherboard will be damaged. Using the 400w or higher power supply will help you save from buying parts that might be destroyed from using a lower wattage power supplies.

The newest CPU, Centrino Sonoma 1.7ghz is almost same speed with Pentium IV-3.0ghz. Consider an AMD instead of an Intel. You will save more if you will buy an AMD because it is much much cheaper compared to Intel.

Laptop are much preferred nowadays. When buying a laptop, always consider the CPU and the video card. Most of the parts are not upgradable so you must really consider the parts of the unit.

If you need a laptop for storing your documents and internet surfing only, you need not buy a very expensive laptop. Choose a laptop with lower specs but with good performance. It will be a lot waste of money if you will buy a high specs laptop which you will use for typing your documents only. What's more. Buy a laptop which is light weight. Do not buy a laptop which is very heavy because it's not very convenient to carry around especially when you are always on the road and you need to carry the documents together with you from time to time.

Secondhand laptops are as good as the brand new ones but lesser the price. Why buy expensive brand new laptops if you can buy a used with same quality and performance. Then compute how much you are going to save. That's whole lot savings for your pocket!

Hope these computer buying tips can help you on choosing computers which is sure to fit your needs. Start investing your money with the right items and buy computers that are not heavy on your pockets.
